Adult Piano Lessons

Try New Things
Yes I teach adults!

Complete beginners are very welcome and you'll learn a lot in a short span of time.

For those who are returning to the piano, I can give you a different learning experience to the one you might have had as a kid.  No exams, no pressure. Let me know what you like to play and what you'd like to learn, and I will tailor lessons to focus on those areas.

If you're not sure if piano lessons are right for you, here are some honest answers that can help you decide.

Will I be able to do it?

I haven't taught anyone who can't.  Music can be taught and learnt, it's not something you have to "be born with". I promise you, you can learn to play the piano. Anything that you can't do, you just can't do yet.

Piano is a fun hobby if you have an open mind to learning and are willing to to be coached to get better as time goes on.

Will I have to practice every day?

(Who has the time???)

But you will have to practice at least a little bit if you want to achieve whatever goals you have in mind for piano. Your fingers won't remember what to do otherwise, particularly when you're first starting out. If you can spare 5 to 10 minutes two to three times a week to sit and play, then this will work out just fine.

And we all have those weeks when we really can't find the time to do any playing. Don't worry. I won't make you feel bad or guilty about it!

Will I be able to play songs that I like?

Yes. That is probably the biggest reason for wanting to learn the piano right? To play music that you like to listen to.

The more you can tell me about your musical interests, the more that I can tailor your learning to suit what you want to play. Pop, rock, classical, new age, film - the genres are endless. It might even be that you just want to learn one specific song to play for one specific event. The more you can tell me about your goal(s), the more I can do to help you get there so you can enjoy the rewards of piano faster.

Of course, this doesn't mean I won't be giving you anything else to play or learn. You can't go from zero ability to playing Beethoven / Queen / (insert favourite artist) without learning a few beginner tunes and tricks. But I will try to balance this out so you don't spend all your time playing boring beginner songs. There's a lot of great repertoire out there and I'll find the right ones for you.
